Possible fraudulent activity

Wednesday 21st April 2010

BW recently had a report from a customer of an apparent attempted fraud - someone claiming to be from BW’s licence renewal team calling to say that the boat licence was overdue and asking for payment card details to renew it. To clarify the situation, BW does not normally initiate telephone contact with customers for standard licence and mooring renewals. There may be exceptions, such as to check information about an application or if an account is overdue. Contact from BW regarding licence renewal is initially made by post. Whilst BW does offer telephone payment, this always involves the customer making initial contact with BW whether by telephone, e-mail or post. If you receive a call purporting to be from BW, ask for the caller’s name and telephone number and say you’ll call them back. Then report the call details to BW’s customer services on 01923 201120 who will be able to confirm whether this is a genuine call.

Flood sites along the Aire & Calder

Thursday 1 April 2010

Until further notice Craft users should be aware that until further notice, the red flashing warning traffic lights at flood locks may not tally with the red, amber, green water level signage prior to entering a river section. The signage should be seen as correct, and not the flashing red traffic light. The flashing red traffic light will give an indication of the river condition, and should not be far off the river signage indicator. An upgrade of the system is planned later this year which will correct this problem.
Navigation of river sections should be gauged by the traffic light warning signage, forecasted weather conditions, and when in amber operator confidence and experience.
Navigation of river sections should be gauged by the traffic light warning signage, forecasted weather conditions, and when in amber operator confidence and experience.
Lock operation will be permitted even if the red traffic light is flashing.

Guidance leaflets
Download a free copy of 'SOME ADVICE TO SKIPPERS using the RIVER TRENT Nottingham <–> Keadby' Here

The Boating Association , in partnership with NABO and the Commercial Boat Operators Association, has had a commitment from BW to make the Skippers guidance leaflets for the River Trent and the Aire & Calder Navigation available for free at relevant locks and BW Offices. If you have difficulty finding them please contact 01636 704481 in the East Midlands (all the Trent except Keadby) or 0113 281 6860 in Yorkshire.

Boaters intending to use these navigations are strongly recommended to collect a copy before they set out on these waters, and, in the case of the Trent, to obtain a copy of the TBA's Sisson's Trent & Ouse Tidal Charts.

If you want the maximum time to prepare, no need to fear the unknown - get genned up!
Happy cruising
